    02/28/2025 by HelenVW 4 Comments

Walking the Camino de Santiago is a life-giving adventure, but the idea of carrying a heavy backpack is a deal-breaker for many people! Luckily, Camino pack transport lets you avoid injury and complete your walk. You can walk unencumbered by a heavy pack, and have everything you need waiting for you at your next stop.

Therefore, in this guide, I’ll walk you through the best known pack transport services available on the Camino, including Correos, Jacotrans, Camino Fácil, Pilbeo, and Express Bourricot. Whether you need daily transfers or just occasional help, pack transport services allow you avoid overuse injuries, walk, and have everything you need waiting for you at your next stop.

Why Use a Pack Transport Service on the Camino?

Using a pack service lets you avoid injury and complete your Camino walk. If you're wondering whether you should use a pack transfer service, here are some great reasons why many pilgrims choose to walk without a heavy backpack:

✅ Less strain on your body – Avoid injury, especially on steep climbs. I succumbed to a stress fracture in my foot on my first Camino in 2007 because of my pack weight and the strain on my feet. This is the type injury you can prevent with the pack service.
✅ More enjoyable experience – Focus on your Camino walk: the scenery, your thoughts, and the connections you make along the way.
✅ Perfect for all ages & abilities – If you have injuries, chronic health concerns, or just want to reduce the wear and tear on your body, luggage transport is a great option. You might be at an age that you can't carry the weight all day, or perhaps you are traveling with children, and need help to carry what they need.
✅ Available on most routes – Services cover the Camino Francés, Camino Portugués, Camino Primitivo, Camino del Norte, Camino Inglés, and more. Check the individual websites for the most up to date services and territories.

You don’t have to use it every day—mix and match depending on how you feel. For example, some pilgrims carry their backpacks most of the way and use transport services only on difficult sections.

    1. Correos – Spain’s Postal Service

Correos, the Spanish postal service, offers Paq Mochila, one of the most trusted pack transfer services on the Camino.

    • Available on all major Camino routes (Frances, Portugues, Norte, Primitivo, and more).
    • You can also send your extra luggage to Santiago with their Paq Peregrino service.

👉 Best for: Pilgrims who want a reliable and widely available transport service.

    2. Jacotrans

    Website: ExpressBourricot.com

If you’re starting in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, Express Bourricot is a lifesaver for getting over the Pyrenees! This is one of the hardest parts of the Camino Francés, and many pilgrims use this service to send their bags ahead or take a shuttle.

    How it works:

    • They offer shuttle services from airports and train stations to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.
    • Luggage transport from Saint-Jean to Roncesvalles. This certainly helps pilgrims tackle the Pyrenees more easily.
    • In addition, they also arrange private taxi services for groups.

👉 Best for: Pilgrims who need help over the Pyrenees or transport from nearby cities.

How to Book a Pack Transport Service

Booking a pack transfer on the Camino is super simple:

1️⃣ Choose your transport provider – Compare services based on your route and needs.
2️⃣ Book in advance (or daily as needed) – Some services let you book the whole Camino, while others allow day-by-day booking.
3️⃣ Label your bag clearly – Most services provide special tags for identification.
4️⃣ Drop your bag off – Leave your pack at your accommodation in the morning.
5️⃣ Enjoy your walk! – Your bag will be waiting for you at your next stop.

Most services cost around €5-€7 per day, making them an affordable way to lighten your load.

Final Thoughts: Walk Your Camino, Your Way

Using a pack transport service on the Camino doesn’t make your journey any less authentic—it makes it more enjoyable and sustainable. Whether you use it every day or just for tough sections, these services help pilgrims focus on the experience rather than struggling with heavy bags.

No matter which Camino route you take, the most important thing is to walk in a way that is right for you.

    Buen Camino!

      Hi,
I cannot find if I can get my pack taken from Porto to Santiago De C.
Probably because some of the site are in Spanish.
Is there some way to have the pack taken to the end to wait for me rather than just stages?
Also at a reasonable rate-seeing that it just will be clothes ..
Or I think about just dumping all the clothes (take cheap ones for the first part of my trip through southern Spain? Morocco.
      Any ideas
      Rob

Hi Rob, It's a good question, and the answer is "yes," you can transport your pack from Porto to Santiago, but I appreciate your idea of getting rid of stuff from the first part of your trip, if possible, as it might be cheaper. So many don't think about that, but if you can pack accordingly, it will serve you well. The option is donate your stuff at the public albergue in Porto or another charity there before setting out walking. However, if you do decide to transport it to Santiago here are some companies and recent pricing: (Note that you will need to plan on picking up your bag in Santiago during the companies' business hours of operation.) CasaIvar.com uses DHL to pick up and transport your bag to Santiago, then store it for you. Check his website to get the details. I know of one couple who transported two bags for storage at a cost of $200 with Ivar's service. Other companies are Tuitrans, Pilbeo (1 bag for 70 euros), Caminofacil (1 bag for 80 euros in September 2024) Check their website for updated details, as these companies are always changing. Also, check the locations of their offices where you will need to go to pick up your bag to see where they are in Santiago. CasaIvar is only five minutes from the Plaza Obradoiro (the Cathedral plaza where pilgrims complete their journey). Wish you all the best on your journey! If you think of other questions, email us at info@CaminoProvisions.com, and we will do our best to give you info so you can make a decision that's right for you. Buen Camino! ~Helen Van Wagenen

Thankyou for your response. Yes it all seems a bit expensive -I was hoping it would be a bit cheaper. I think I will plan for disposing of items before the beginning. have packed a smaller pack inside a larger one to downsize as well.I guess I wont be purchasing any souvenirs along the first part of my travels!

Rob, I know we were very aware of adding extra weight to our packs, so we waited until the to buy anything in the way of souvenirs. We collected many memories and photos, and stamps in our pilgrim passports along the way. But there are places that will ship things home if you really see something unique. We wish you the best on your Camino! Buen Camino!
